Spring Newsletter

March 30, 2005

Spring is here. We hope all is well with you and your family. We have butterflies and frogs out and about, the geese and ducks are paired up, but there are no swallows yet. Perhaps they are a little gun shy.

The snow is almost gone at this elevation and the Mabel Lake snow pack is 98% of normal. To the south and west of here the snow pack is very low; it is down to less than 35% of normal in some areas. The Central and Southern Okanagan could experience severe water shortages this summer. Spring rains are the big variable now.

Bev and Don spent five weeks backpacking around Costa Rica in February and March. We had a wonderful time. Daughter Sara and Trevor were engaged the day before Valentine’s Day. We were living in an isolated tent camp at this time, with no phone or power, and so we were the last to hear the good news.

Colin and his snow sculpture team, Snowblind, finished first in B.C. at Silver Star again this year and so they will travel, all expenses paid, to Quebec City for the Canadian Finals next winter. Snowblind spent a week in Whitehorse, where they finished second in an International competition.

Included in this letter is your moorage notice for the coming season. Moorage not renewed by May 15 will be let to those on our waiting list. Just a reminder that we have covered winter storage available and that we will service your boat, put it in the water for your arrival and take it out in the fall after you leave.

Please give us five days notice before you want your boat in the water. This enables us to charge the batteries and fuel up your tank for your arrival.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Don, Bev & Colin

Christmas Newsletter

December 9, 2005

Season’s Greetings from the Brookes family at the Rivermouth. We hope you and your family are well and looking forward to Christmas.

We have had a week of what is cold weather for here at minus 8 to minus 15. There are a few inches of snow on the ground. The water level is back to a seasonal normal after rising over three feet due to October rains.

The sketch is of our house at the Rivermouth as it was when we moved here. We used this on our first Christmas card in 1978. All of our family, Sara & Trevor, Alana & Terry will be here for Christmas and we are looking forward to the season.

Don returned from China in time for Thanksgiving. He had a very interesting trip and said the rate of change in China is unbelievable. We stored and winterized the last of our customers boats before the first snow in late November. The roof is just going on the new condos. Labour and material shortages have put them a few weeks behind schedule, but with the roof going on they are taking on their final shape.

Colin and his snow sculpting team “Snowblind” are off to Quebec city again this year to compete in the Canadian finals. They are busy putting the finishing touches on their maquette and modifying as well as making new sculpting tools.

We are looking forward to the New Year. Bev & Don’s plans for late winter are uncertain but Sara & Trevor will be married in Victoria in early May. Manager Bob and Chef Jeff will be back at the clubhouse and Don, Bev & Colin will be back in the marina.

We wish you the best for the holiday season and coming new year.
